about

"This album and the aesthetics and textures associated with it were initially developed shortly after the purchase of an original TEAC A-4300SX tape reel machine. Various open-ended recording sessions had taken place that involved creating a wide variety of sounds from various hardware and software sources such as guitar amps, stomp pedals, synthesizers and turntables, which were then routed through an extensive series of digital processing techniques. The final output of some of these sessions were recorded onto a 7.5 ips tape reel, which added yet another layer of character and depth to the sounds. Some of the tape recordings were then re-processed back into the computer system and manipulated further until the sounds began to fall apart and disintegrate into a different sound world. These sounds began to seem as if they had exploded into space, like a dying star creating fragments of star stuff that eventually lead to the creation of other new worlds. There were a lot of unintended fragments of sound coming out of different things. Amplification and distortion of a record crackle pop that was used to create a kick drum of a beat, for example. A lot of surprising discoveries were made during these experiments and eventually led to the foundation of the album. Some sounds were obliterated beyond recognition, while others were minimally manipulated in order to create a nice contrast of quality and texture. The album is an emotional exploration of human relationships and how destructive and enjoyable they can be and all the torment and love they can bring." - Paul Cristina
